In Design and Technology at Coombeshead we aim to provide opportunities for students to develop their capability, through combining their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to create quality products.
We think that Design and Technology involves investigative, disassembly and evaluative activities related to products and their applications, focused practical tasks to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of materials, components and control systems. Design and Technology provides excellent opportunities for students to apply value judgements of an aesthetic, economic, moral, social, and technical nature in their designing and to existing products and their applications.
Students will develop a range of communication skills, including verbal, graphical and modelling skills, to help their thinking and ability to take action in the process of designing. We think that students should enjoy designing and making products across all material areas.

Advice for Parents
Design and Technology students at Coombeshead Academy require some specialist equipment. We expect them to have all of the usual kit for school but we also expect them to have a folder to put work in (minimum size A4) and a 300mm ruler along with a set of colouring pencils to enable them to enhance design work.
Engage your children in all things design and all things practical. Even in the kitchen!!!
